DIRECT INSTRUCTION
GROUPING CONSIDERATIONS
* Students should be grouped homogeneously
--at instructional level
--if possible cross-class, cross-grade grouping
* Number of groups to be taught determined by:
--Programs to be used
--Time allotments for each person
--No group larger than fifteen
* Groups must be scheduled everyday
* Consideration and priority for special students
* District time requirements (stated policy)
* Coordination with other teaching staff
* General school schedule (coordination)
* Schedule must be posted
* Schedule should be in front of teacher's lesson plan book
* Supervisor should have copy of teacher's schedule
* Schedule should be free of conflict
* Student names should be listed for each group

* Allows best use of teacher time
* Allows flexibility in the schedule
* Allows time for teaching basic skills
* Allows time for district requirements
* Allows time to firm up skills for mastery
* Frees up staff to supervise individual needs of students
